About Dr. Ming Tao Jiang, MD, PhD - Founder of Marathon Ginseng
Ming Tao Jiang, MD, PhD grew up in Shandong, China, the native place of the legendary Sun Liang, the Lord of Ginseng Digger. Dr. Jiang received his medical education in Shandong Medical University between 1979 and 1988 and later obtained his PhD in medical research (Physiology) in Ontario, Canada.
Medical Research Career and Heart Disease Expertise
Before becoming a ginseng farmer in 2010, Dr. Jiang was a physician/medical scientist/professor in heart diseases for over 20 years. His research papers (1) have been cited over 1200 times as of 2024 for his pioneering work on the understanding of heart function in aging, ischemia and failure. In 2006, his conceptual-breakthrough work on heart protection via mitochondrial messengers was characterized as an important milestone by an editorial from the American Journal of Physiology (2).
Life in Wisconsin - The Ginseng Capital of America
Dr. Jiang has been a resident of Wisconsin since 1996. In 2009, his family moved to Marathon County in Wisconsin, the Ginseng Capital of America, where his wife Dr. Lu practices medicine as a spine specialist serving the local ginseng farmers and other residents. His daughter Katherine is a graduate of UW-Madison Medical School specializing in Urban Medicine and a Family Physician in Seattle WA. His son Jason was a graduate of UW Madison and a MBA from Cornell Tech MBA living in New York city.
American Ginseng Cultivation and Medical applications
After15 years of hard work and many trials, he has transformed himself into a skilled ginseng farmer, producing premium ginseng roots from 3 to 10 years old. Because of his medical/research background, Dr Jiang has had unparalleled insights into how powerful American Ginseng can be as a super food in the US and Medicine in Asia, from wellness to applications in critical conditions. Wild American Ginseng Conservation
Since 2017, Dr Jiang and Marathon Ginseng have provided millions of of free Ginseng Seeds to hundreds of forest farmers across the eastern USA from the Mississippi river to Appalachian mountains, for conservation and sustainable harvest of wild American Ginseng.
